I want to provide my registrar with feedback

Have a CHAT session

What is it?

This is a tool allowing the registrar and supervisor to assess and feedback on their performances as a teacher and learner and develop ways of improving. Each term in general practice will have 3 CHAT sessions. The form asks for evidence about the assessments made.

Who developed it?

This was developed by Wentwest.

How is it done?

The registrar completes the Registrar form, which is a self assessment of their strengths and areas for improvement, as well as feedback for the supervisor. The Supervisor completes their version of the form assessing the registrar and the teaching of the practice. These are then compared and discussed and a consensus is reached about areas for improvement on the joint form.

What does the supervisor do?

The supervisor promotes honest self assessment and discusses the findings, especially any differences in assessment. They then help the registrar to formulate a plan to improve. It is also important to recognize the strengths of the registrar.

Practice tips

Use other assessment tools to inform the assessments.

Remember the discussion and feedback is more important than the paperwork.
