I want to assess the registrar’s learning needs by looking at the RACGP curriculum

Use the Curriculum Competency Review

What is it?

This is a checklist across the RACGP curriculum of competencies and gaps. It is used to identify areas that the registrar needs to cover. It consists of an overall framework and then a domain by domain checklist.

Who developed it?

This is published in the GPET Assessment During Training handbook.

How is it done?

The supervisor and registrar go through the list to identify how competent the registrar is in each area and what experience they have. The second form is printed once for each domain.

What does the supervisor do?

From the registrar’s experience and assessment of their own competence, gaps are identified to be put on the learning plan.

Practice tips

Remember that this is an assessment of competence (what the registrar can actually do) whereas the WECSAG is an assessment of confidence (what the registrar feels good about doing). This may add an extra dimension to the WECSAG assessment, which all registrars will be doing, but for many registrars will cover similar ground.
