I want to assess the registrar’s recognition of issues in a consultation
Use the Self Reflection Case Log |
|
What is it? This is a modified patient log which allows the registrar to identify and discuss issues arising from their consultations. Who developed it? This is contained in the GPET Assessment During Training manual. How is it done? The registrar keeps a log of patients they see within a given timeframe and notes points for discussion which arise. The registrar should be encouraged to reflect on and study these issues. What does the supervisor do? The supervisor discusses some of the issues in detail with the registrar. The supervisor should also identify issues which may have been missed by the registrar. Practice tips Follow up with the registrar what they learn from their own study - for example they could present a teaching session themselves on it or at a practice meeting. Use the patient log that all registrars keep in basic term as an way of encouraging self reflection as well. The case log can also be used to identify cases for random case analysis or problem case analysis. Further Information See instructions included with the tool or contact Tim Senior
