Trainer – Registrar Education and Assessment Toolkit

What do you want to do with your registrar today?

I want to find out what the rest of the practice think of the registrar

Use the Peer Review Form

What is it?

A questionnaire to for feedback on a registrar’s performance from other people working at the practice. It does not contain a rating scale - it is all free text.

Who developed it?

This form is on the BMJ Learning website based in the UK. I have removed the name on the example and re-worded some of the UK specific parts.

How is it done?

The supervisor or registrar give the form to other practice staff to complete, who then return the form to either the registrar or to the supervisor—you decide!

What does the supervisor do?

After completion, the supervisor can use the results in a tutorial to discuss with the registrar areas that they are doing well in and areas they need to improve. The results, as so often in these tools,  should be a starting point for a discussion, rather than the end result.

Practice tips

1. Use the form yourself, and show your result to the registrar - this will role model this sort of behaviour very well.

2. Ask the registrar what results they were expecting, and what surprised them about the result
