Use the Self Assessment in Consultation Skills

What is it?

This is a questionnaire consisting of statements about dealing with particular problems or skills. The registrar answers how much they agree or disagree with the statements.

Who developed it?

This tool is on the UK Northumbria GP VTS website.

How is it done?

The registrar completes the questionnaire before or in a tutorial.

What does the supervisor do?

The supervisor discusses the findings with the registrar and can then target teaching at those areas the registrar is underconfident with.

Practice tips

Watch out for the overconfident registrar!

Have a read of the questionnaire beforehand and think of potential ways of teaching or potential patients who may help teach these skills.
